Kjerringøy is a small village with approximately 300 inhabitants, located in Nordland approximately 40 km North of Bodø. In addition to its magnificent scenery, Kjerringøy is famously known for its old trading centre.
The Trade Post at Kjerringøy is the only northern Norwegian trading post that is completely preserved and it consists of 15 old buildings retaining many of their original contents. A visit here is a journey back in time, where you can feel its glorious past in fish trading, (particularly herring and cod) and get to know the daily life in the northern Norway coastal communities in the 19th century.

Guided tours are then available around the various yards and buildings. During the tour you will hear more about the competent merchants of Kjerringøy and gain an insight into the daily lives of the fishermen and smallholders on the coast.
Kjerringøy has been used as a backdrop for several famous TV shows and movies. In particular, the film I am Dina based on the book of Herbjørg  Wassmo was staged here in 2001, with Gérard Depardieu in one of the leading roles.
